Cameron Shively’s dream of earning a college degree and building a career in construction management is becoming a reality, thanks to the support of the ��«Ӱҵ Center for Student Success.

Despite facing the challenges of ADHD, which makes time management and maintaining focus difficult, Cameron is developing the essential skills needed to thrive in college and beyond.

Cameron chose ��«Ӱҵ for its small campus setting and the opportunity to participate in Track & Field. And, out of all the universities he explored, ��«Ӱҵ’s construction management program offered the most hands-on learning.

“Not just talking about something, but actually doing it, helps me to learn.”

As he embarked on his college journey, Cameron immediately connected with the Accessibility Services Office, part of the Center for Student Success. He meets with the coordinator weekly for help with organizing his time and keeping track of his assignments.

Additionally, he also utilizes the Writing Center, the Tutoring Center, and the Testing Center, for additional support in succeeding on his assignments and exams.

“Everyone is nice, inviting, and very helpful. The tutors especially are able to take information that isn’t clear to me and present it in a way that totally makes sense.”

Cameron believes that at a larger school, he would have had to advocate for academic support on his own. At ��«Ӱҵ, however, that support is readily and generously provided.

Last summer, he interned at a construction supply company, working in estimating and selling rebar. This summer, he hopes to land a project management internship with a company working on a project at the John Glenn Columbus International Airport.

“I am grateful for all the people who are helping me at ��«Ӱҵ, and I can’t wait to launch my career.”
